What's up with all the heater issues? When I put my thermostat in I didn't have much heat at first. After messing around with it for a while I took the heater hose loose and started the car. I had such low pressure going through the lines that I had to rev it up to about 1500 before it started blowing coolant out. Having said all of that I don't know what fixed it. It just started working. I guess there was air pockets in the heater core or something that prevented the coolant from flowing threw it. You could try discounting the line that runs to the heater core and attaching an garden hose to it and forcing water thru it.

Here's an off the wall thought. If your rad cap was bad would the coolant system be able to have enough pressure to pump water thru the heater core. I don't know how the plumbing works. Just a thought.

I know I can tell it is opening because my temp sensor for the Guage is very touchy. I watch the temp go up and then it opens and watch the guage go down.

And the temp at the thermostat housing is about 190 or so. That is using the Laser Temp guage to take the reading.

Get an inverter and plug an electric space heater into it.

I think I'm goin to try replacing my thermostat this weekend to see if that helps at all. I bought the car with 77xxx miles so I'm sure that it is still the stock one. So hopefully that will help. If not then I will also try disconnecting the hose that goes to the heater core. Hopefuly this will help since it started raining now and I need the defroster to work. Thanks fellas

Sounds like a thermostat. Also if the core is plugged coolant just won't go through it but the cooling system will still keep the engine cool because it flows through the path of least resistance. I worked on a taurus that had a hose that T'd off before the heater core hoses connecting them so if the core would ever plug it would just flow through that hose. Same concept on the mustang and most systems. The pump doesn't creat pressure, the heat does, all the pump does is create flow.
