Default ’85 GT carb to EFI co

So I'm going to be rebuilding an '85 GT, and I'm considering converting to EFI while I'm rebuilding the engine. Has anybody here done this or can tell me everything that is involved? I know I need to replace the intake and get a computer and wiring harness...does anybody have a list of eerything I'll need to do? Any help would be great.

i did something like that in a way.... i had a 96 formula trans am, and i took the motor out of it and put it in my 68 camaro and i kept it efi, it was really hard to do, alot harder then i thought, but im sure you just need the intake/computer/wire harn/.... and then the things like injectors/airflow meater/and a few other things, im sure it wont be very cheap, and it will take alot of time... not sure if any of this helps but i felt like sayin something lol

What he said. MUCH cheaper, and easier.

IMHO it's not worth it.

IMHO fuel injection is nice on a daily driver where you need to be able to jump in and go, whereas with my truck I have to let it warm up a little before going.

I know it's a lot easier to stay with a carb, but a fuel-injected 5.0 is so nice and fun to drive. What I actually might do is build a smog engine with the smog-legal carb to smog it every 2 years, then build a fire-breathing 347 stroker to dump into it for driving in between smogs. <IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0">I can handle an engine swap every couple of years. </P>

I'm angry because I once passed up the chance to buy '90 GT 5-speed that had a slightlytweaked frame because of an accident, in excellent running condition, for $1200. Would have made an excellent donor car. I had the cash to buy it, but at the time my dad was driving the '85 so I didn't think it would make sense to buy it. Sure wish I had it now. <IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>USAMuscle</editID><editDate>37994.7145717593</editDate></edited>

If it's carb, save your time and money and buy a really good carb. And you'll have some extra money to get something else.
