my car just turned over its 100,000th mile and i was looking for input about anything that might need replaced or checked at this time. i have heard to check the timing belt and was wondering what the average life span is. any suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated.</P>

did you put all 100k miles on? If not CHECK EVERYTHING!!!!!!! For starters,</P>


check fluids, plugs, hoses, belts, pulleys, filters, injectors...EVERYTHING.</P>


If you dont know howgo to a shop (not recommended) If youdont want to spend the time sell your car now and get a bus pass! Time=love and you gotta show love to your car</P>

replace 02 sensors</P>


change spark plugs , spark plug wires roter ect ect ( tune up)</P>


new fuel filter</P>


change oil</P>


just basic maintance stuff</P>

i have taken great care from 65,000 mileswhen bought till now and the plugs, rotor, filters, and oil are all kept up with. I was looking for anything major that needs attention...bearings, gaskets...

just get yourself ready to put another 100k on it...don't ya just love the 302?<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"> will see if a 4.6 can meet the 200k on a reg basis

Why is it we spend our time and money into a machine that only has the life expectancy of 100,000 miles?</P>


Cars arent built to last, its not profitable.</P>


The car inustry has conditioned us all to think that by 100K our cars are junk and will start falling a part. While this is certainly true if you dont do regular maint. you should expect more out of a $30k purchase than just eight years (if not less).</P>


My Scout has 450k miles on it today with the factory motor!! Granted i have upgraded a bit but the trick is Maintenance! I bout my truck at 200k miles for $500 and the guy thought he robbed me HA! after a very minor tune up the truck was performing like it had just come off the assembly line.</P>

in a way your right...if 60% of the people kept car to even a 100k in car indusrty would be on it's knees as the older people 60+ thing 50k is alot..just think if they ever put an oil primer on a stock engine life would double and 200k would be the normal as the bodies on car last alot longer with out rust....maybe then car prices will come down<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0">

hell i bought a 89 5.0 had 180,000miles on it from 1st. owner said he had no major promplems with itjust maint.expect for 1 clucth.

Your car has a timming chain not a belt</P>


You should change the chain because of streech from the miles.</P>


you timming will be more precice with a new chain then you chould advance it a little more </P>


It is not a nessasary to change it,if it brakes( highly unlikely)won'tharm other components like imports <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"></P>

*L* i feel the same way. nothing against German cars, just japanese and korean cars. cars just dont last like they used to, not that i would know (im only 16) but have heard from my cousin of his ford truck that lasted like 350k miles and the only thing wrong with it was the rust. *L* timing chain might be a good thing to change, but the best thing to do would be to read the owners manual. it has all the maintenance sh*t that you will need to know. if you do maintain the car right it could just be middle-aged!! </P>
