I really need help with this gremlin
Hey everybody I've been trying to figure this out for a long time so I hope someone can help. I have a 1985 mustang gt with a holley carb. every time it starts to get warmed up it starts cutting out really bad and wanting to die especially when I press on the gas. I've replaced the fuel pump and filter, the plugs and wires, the distributor is pretty new, and I cleaned the carb but nothing worked. A mechanic where I work said it might be the ignition module so I replaced that and it helped for about a week then started again. It seems to get worse every time I drive it. Is it probably a problem in my wiring to the ignition module or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ive had brand new mallory and accel distributors both go bad on me, so dont think that just b/c its new that not the prob. It shouldnt be the ignition module b/c when they go out, you wont get any fire at all (at least thats been my experience). It could be the magnetic pickup coil or condensor. Just pull the distributor apart and start testing pieces w/ a multimeter. Did it start doing this after you installed the distributor and reset the timing or just come on all of the sudden? Also, what size is the carb? Theres no need to go bigger than say, 600 cfm on a 5.0

could the vacum line that feels vacum to the carb. be in wrong place? It's should go on above mixture screw. Also good idea to install inline filter before carb. This way can see fuel flow. What type of replacement fuel pump was installed? Electrical problems are the hardest because you can't see them. Will have to test them or do process of elimination. Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for the feedback. I installed a stock replacement fuel pump but I dont think that is the problem. I was talking to someone today and they mentioned the grease as well. I dont think that is the problem either because on my 85 the ignition module is mounted on the right wall of the engine bay, not on top of the block like the fuel injected fox bodies. When I have time I am going to check the distributor hopefully that is the problem and its not in the wiring. I will keep you posted.
