Default cam question...

what makes a cam have the real lopey idle? the higher the lift nuber the loper the idle???...Im not sure but is the higher the lift on the cam, the more top end power its made for? what wrong with going with afr 165 heads and going with a big cam with like .600 lift ...and make sure the heads have dual spring package so they can withstand the cam..would this work..would this work?

duration and lobe separation makes it have a choppy idle. Lift is just how far the valves open.. Maybe someone else can answer the questions about the heads better then I can. but with a lift like that, you will run into valve contact with the pistons. NOT GOOD.. You can get aftermarket pistons to compensate for this somewhat.

My buddy is running AFR 165s and an E303 w/ 1.72 rockers (= .535 lift) and he's ok. I think when u get around .550 lift is where you're gonna start getting problems with the heads.

Wow, thats a little bit off from what I said I actually was going to put a Lunati (.512') in my 5.0 and someone told me that I would JUST make it but they wouldnt recommend it. That was a long time ago but for some reason it just stuck with me. Sorry for the bad information

Piston/valve clearance is the real issue about what you can run. It all depends on where the cam timing is set, advance/retarded/or 'straight-up'.
The 'lope' comes most from valve overlap event in the cycle...........

Ok, think of it this way, if you change the cam you are doing the same thing as putting a new program in your 'puter at home. Everything changes..........
