Default common problems with 5.0

I'm in the market for a 5.O. Yesterday i went and looked at a 1988 gt hatchback. It was in imaculate condition, looked brand new. It only has 80000 miles and fires right up and runs. The only problem is the owner told me that if you drive it hard or drive it for a long time it looses oil pressure and run's hot. He said it just needs a new oil pump which he has, just hasn't installed. Will a new oil pump fix the problem? What else could be causing this? Is this common? Expensive to fix? Any feedback would be appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance

no thats not common...and car fax it...I bet it has 180,000, you cant tell how many times it rolls over...if it said 23,000, it could mean 223,000 0r 123,000, who knows, youll have to car fax it, which isnt a bad idea anyway when shopping for cars...personally I wouldnt buy it, oil pumps and Shiz are expensive and hard stuff to work on and fix, plus its messy...IDK

Oil pumps themselves are very cheap for the Mustang but are a real bitch to put in. Plus it is prob not the full problem with the car. I would def have the car fax on it. It should not be having any real problems at a real 80K miles.

Wellll it all depends on how you drive the car. Do a carfax, it dosent matter if the car has doesnt show ONE single problem. Still do a carfax! It cant hurt and you can find alot of info that they might not want you to know. And if you get it home and blow the motor you will hate yourself for not spending the 20 bucks.

I think that there could very well be other problems to go along with the bad oil pump. I could see where a bad oil pump will cause you to loose pressure but that shouldn't make the motor run hot. My buddy thold me there is a good chance that the bearings and the crank are bad also. He said usuall the two problems go hand in hand. Anyone ever deal with these problems? unfortunaely i think the motor has to be taken out to replace these parts? Doesn't the car fax only show repairs that have reported and repaird at a shop?
