Default AOD-C4 swap

I have posted before my overdrive in my AOD is about toast and will barely maintain speed. I had an estimate of $580 if i bring the transmission to the shop and they will replace all the clutches and the overdrive band and a new converter.

I have a option of buying a C4 out of a 81 f150 351 for $150. with the bellhousing, converter. Could i get some opinions on which way to go and maybe some information on the differences of the swap, and any links while i am searching would be great. I also have 4.10 gears but i think the final drive would be the same for me correct? also would my shifter work that is 1, d, overdrive. With the C-4 it would be 1, 2, 3-4 is this correct? Thanks for any help.

C4 doesnt have OD
you will need a different shifter
truck tranny i think is a longer tailshaft
stock C4 isnt any stronger then the AOD

personally no need to do that

were you located. i may sell my Strip/Street AOD [its a 2800 dollar value] its tranny, Deep pan,3200 stall, Lentech VB

first off, don't believe it.....a converter alone is $500 for a good one.

a typical aod rebuild is $1500 minimum....thats bringing it in...not letting them do the R&R

aod shifter can be used...but needs to modified (i'm not sure how...i just know it needs to be done)

do the c4 swap..but that tranny is a 3-speed and no od....3rd gear is 1:1...so it would like driving in "d" all the time on your aod...no od of .68:1

i had a link to a site...but can't find it.

i believe the complete quote was a complete rebuild leaving the car there would be $1500. leaving the car there And fix whats broke $850 with new converter "stock" and for $580. i bring them the transmission and they fix whats broke with a new "stock" converter not a "good" one lol. this was taken to a transmission shop and he testdrove it and said there is nothing wrong with 1,2,3rd so he will replace the cluthches, replace OD and put in a new stock converter nothing performance, but if i go this route i will see about a kevlar OD band, and i will get a second quote from another shop for the heck of it. Thx for the info sofar. Im in SC and im going to stay under a $1,000. for the fix. planning on my budget it will be in feburary so i have some time

ok i see that i just cant live with the gear ratio of the c-4, not with 4.10's anyway. I will keep some options open. Quik you are tempting me lol. My parents are coming down from NY in about 3 weeks to visit, but i wont have the funs in time.
