Default Buying gears,pipes,intakes...

Ive had my eye on 1990 mustang 5.0's ever since my parents bought a 1997 mustang GT. I Like the FOX body styles for the 87-91<IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0">.I looked up the Blue bookvalue for the 5.0,Is 2500 a good price for a decent 5.0?Anyway I was wondering when I get a 5.0 ill have 1500 to spend on upgrades. what parts should I buy, I was thinking gears, headers, exhaust. What other parts should I put on...What brands. How hard is it to install all these parts. what tools Will i need to install these parts?Im on a limited budget, I also would like to make the interoir good also. Thanks for imput<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

Just my $.02:</P>

BBK LT Headers $239.00, Matching short O/R H Pipe $119.00, Flowmaster Mufflers or Magnaflow (personal preference), BBK pulleys $79.00, Ford Racing 3.73 r&amp;p + Rat install kit $278.00, then the install will cost around $175.00, Hurst Comp plus shifter $179.00, aluminum driveshaft $120.00, Subframe connector $89.00, FRPP 8mm wires $45.00, NGK V Plugs $16.00, 180' thermo $9.00, MSD Cap and rotor button (dunno, around $30.00), then you can dress up the interior a tad with BBK race pedals and white face gauges. That should put you around your $1500.00 mark. THEN save up for heads, intake and cam. I suggest the kit from Trick Flow for around $2000.00. Again, others may disagree but this is the route I'd suggest for a stock Fox. </P>

Oh yeah, Moroso cold air intake as well.... a little over $100.00..</P><edited><editID>karma279</editID><editDate>37998.9850462963</editDate></edited>

Yeah, def heads intake and cam.... but do the others first. You need to open up the exhaust and do your bolt-ons before heads, cam and intake. Just my opinion. Then do the Twisted Wedge heads, Trick Flow track heat intake and the matching Trick Flow cam. The intake and cam he listed are good choices, but the Tric Flow stuff is better IMO. Take that $1500 and do the bolt-ons I listed. I'm sure most would agree that those are good things to start with on a stock Fox.

he wont be able to buy the cobra intake anymore. FRPP quit making them. all sold out.
2500 is a decent price and you get go by blue book. look up the blue book for a 70 chevelle... and it will tell squat... ppl sell their cars for more money then a book is worth. but you should be able to find a highmileage stang for around that price.

i would go with MAC for the cat-back,heddman longtubes jet-hot coated, and the heddmano/r x-pipe, just my opinion. then some 3.73s, sticky rubber, CAI. if it was my car i would converty it to carb, but i dont know if you want to or not. since cost is an issue it might be good to convert it.

one you need a tool to adjust the clearence. or you can just install them and take them out about a hundred times<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> to you find the right amount of shims. gears are around a 3 hours job.

There's no way I'd try to do gears myself.... Take it to a shop. The crush sleeve and clearance, proper alignment. Leave that to someone who has done it over and over again. Ask for references on that job, or you'll have one hell of a whining noise from your axle.</P>

if you get whining noises from rearend you have abad bearing.if someone is a quick and comfident person it can be done. why pay when it can be tackled by yourself. but dont lie to yourself and tell yourself your something your not.
