Default clutch or tranny?

personally i think i have a worn out clutch, when i speed shift to 2nd it grinds, like almost every time. i know eventually it will burn my tranny but i personally think its the clutch. maybe its been worn down by the previous owner, so it will not go into 2nd, grinds when i speed shift to 3rd and will do the same when going to forth but not fifth. the problem is that its not getting in gear, clutch or tranny or something that i havnt listed?

clutch cable most likly. you know you can shift a lil easyer and go just as fast, are trannys have syncors in them and if you shift to fast it will not align right and it will grind. if you have the stock clabe and quadrant pull the pedal up towards you while you are sittin in the car and if it click than it was loose.

Sounds more like a synchro problem to me... A tired clutch cable would make it difficult to get into gear while you're stopped... but then again so would some tranny problems

You can shift without even clutching, you just have to be sure the engine and tranny are going the same speed

Here's a way to check (i think)... put it in neutral.... rev it up to 4k or so rpm, quickly pop in the clutch and quickly shift to second (BUT DON'T LET OUT THE CLUTCH)

Try the same into first

If it grinds into second, but not first, your synchros in second gear are bad (which wouldn't be surprising... people usually make harder 1-2 shifts, and downshift into second... rarely into first)

If it grinds into both and the car moves, your clutch cable is worn out

I dunno, this is just a makeshift test i just made up, but it should work

Haha, yeah, me neither. (note i take no responsibility if you accidently drop your clutch at 5k rpms in first right infront of a brick wall.)
