tell me something about my carbed 302
i have an electic fuel pressure gauge and i have no idea what my pressure should be. before i bought the car i was told that it would sometimes run for 1/2 an hour then die. if you let it cool for 10 mins it will start right back up and drive home. my guage will sometimes change but most of the time it is running at 5-6 pounds. i though when i first got it that it ran at 8 pounds last week. i did find a small drip of a leak right after the sending unit for the guage and i dont know if that effects pressure or not. but i have driven the car for about 40 mins straight and no problems except for the fuel pressure seems to drop the longer it runs.
On another not how do i tell what motor is in my car. where do i get numbers and whats the easiest way to tell. i do know the oil filter is something like ph8a from frame but that hasnt narrowed it down far.

The 4 bbl carb will only nee 5-7# pressure. From what you are saying, it sounds like the pump maybe a little weak if it runs and the pressure drops off.
That little leak probably had bearing on anything....

if it is running too high pressure it might cause the engine to run rich. that could cause it to stall out. then he would have to let it sit so it would drain out the excess gas. maybe u just stomp on it more so it doesnt show up as much. i wowld lower the fuel pressure a pound or 2 and see what that does. i wouldnt be surprised if u got a few more ponies out of it.
as for engine identification, there is a number casted into the side of the block. if u get that number we can tell u the engine

see the fuel pressure will start out around 7 to 7.5 psi when cold then after about a half hour it will be down to like 3.5, where about is the number located on the side and can i see it in the car.

could be that the factory ..fuel pick up in tank ,,the sock they call it could be pulling up after it runs awhile picking up trash ..then when you let it sit the trash falls off the sock,,than pressure is fine again....just a thought.....my 83 gt long time ago..give me fits..think the car had like 140k on it ...whan i pulled tank ..there was like sand in it ..???or fine grit ,,i took sock off the pickup then ran i good filter ,,and cleaned tank.
