Default 66 fastback vs. 89LX

I would like as many opinions on this as possible. I am looking at either going with a 65/66 fastback OR and 89 LX Hatch mustang. Which body style is more suited for performance, keeping in mind that the Fox body has to pass emisions, and I can add modern suspension and sub frame connectors to the 65/66. It seems that the Fox body even with GOOD restoration and modifications to the 65/66, has and edge over 65/66 body style, just because people tend to use the fox body more. I really don't know my logic would seem that they are both the same. Is this correct thinking?

BTW: one thing I am told is that a 460 big block can fit into a fox body...which seems to be an advantage to me...

I would just go with the fastback just because they are so rare and when done right they look awsome. Plus I feel like they are easier to tune and work on being carberated and all. A Cobra Jet motor would fit nicley in that fastback.

F yeah go with the fastback. If you can get one then DO IT! Lower it with some nice candy apple red and white racing stripe Oh and a nice set of chrome rims......sorry wet dream there..... But if you only care about performance then yeah I think the fox weighs the least out of all mustangs made and that is a great advantage.

The Cobra Jet motor im talking about is a 460 Big Block Cobra jet. Its a 7.5 liter motor that produces 500+ HP out of the crate.

This one right here.
And this one.

Yes a 460 will fit in a fox using ford motorsport mounts. But the car then becomes a straight driver, and not much of a corner carver...... Also I think the fox will run around the 66 in the corner carving performance area.....

Well, I'm selling my 68 Camaro convertible and replacing it with a 90 LX convertible. Only because the stang is 100 times more useful than an antique muscle car. It's more confortable, useful, reliable, and the list goes on. I'm 29 years old and although 60's muscle cars are in fashion now, the fox body stang was the car I dreamt of owning when I was a kid.
Plus, it takes a hell of alot less work to get a late 80's early 90's stang to perform like a modern car, than it does to make an antique perform like an 80's or 90's car.
Good luck.
