Default Tire size on stock wheels

Well, my 90 GT got a flat. I was thinkin about different tires anyways, so I guess it isn't so bad.

Anyways, what's the widest/best size tire I can get on the back w/ stock wheels? I'm lookin for a tire with some grip, but they can't wear out over night. I'd like the get a wider tire for obvious reasons. I'm lookin @ BFG T/As incase I get into some ****ty weather..in the summer, I'm goin to 5-lug and wheels/better tires then...just kinda need somen to get me through the spring, but some extra grip would be nice.

Thanks,
Carl

255 is probably the widest you can fit on a 7 inch rim. But my 225's bubble over the rim a little to much for my taste.

225s are what are on it now, but I'm lookin to go a little bigger. Will 245/60s work well? I'm know they would be a bit taller, but I'm gonna throw some 3.73s in @ the same time, so hopefully that'll help w/ traction until I can decide on u/l CAs.

Oh, when I order my ring/pinion, I don't need to get the "kit" do I?? Can't I just get the ring/pinion themselves??

The kit includes bolts, crush sleeve, seal, shims, and other stuff you'll need.

Click on "overall diameter chart" It will help pick a wider tire but keep the same overall diameter.

spacers and they do rub a little bit on the inside

The Tire Rack, Discount Tire Direct, etc don't have anything decent in a 245/50 I've found. I want the best contact patch I can get w/o screwing myself. I'm almost set on some 245/60/15 BFG Radial T/As if no one has any better suggestions.

So I DO need to buy a kit when I swap the gears?? I'm not tryin to dump a ton of money, but I will do it right. Where would I wanna look to get a good 3.73 kit? I'd prefer someplace not in Ohio (Jegs, Summit, etc)..I don't wanna pay tax. I do some highway driving, but not a ton..are 3.73s my best choice? I hate to change my ratio this early in the modding process, but I can't take the 2.73s or whatever those high things are.

I checked and 245/60s are a full inch taller than the 225/60s. Will that offset between the front and rear hurt me?
