Default help me figure out these codes

Okay, I got the code reader in today and on the KOER test (engine on) the first thing that popped up was a 8 with cyl above it. And then I had codes 94 and 44 which all sounded to me like smog stuff and my smog is all bypassed, so that's understandable. I tried the cylinder balance test but it wouldn't work. Someone help me out with these codes and what I'm doing wrong with the cylinder balance test.

Maybe your #8 cylinder? Could be the plug or wire.

So it finally cam in? Nice to know. 8 Means either bad Plug, wrong gapping, bad wire and not a proper conection.

Is there a guide that comes with these things. How do you know what the codes mean?

Okay, well I figured it out and got the cylinder balance check to work. The 8 with the cyl above it means that 8 cylinders are under testing. I thought that I'd post this to see what everyone thinks... code 94: Air diverter solenoid circuit fault (sounds like smog equipment to me), code 44: Thermactor air system fault (once again this one too sounds like smog ****). And my cylinder balance says that all 8 of my cylinders are running equally (making equal power). So code wise, I guess my engine is running great. I'll put money on it though, that the ticking sound is one of my lifters, I hope that it can hold out for a few more weeks until I can get some new ones and have the time to put them in.
