i have a 92 gt and i was wonderin if anyone could help me out in figurin out whats happening with the speedometer in my car. well what happens is that as soon as it hits 80 mph, the needle just drops all the way down and seems as if the car is topping out in speed, which of course im not going that fast. the car is still going at around 2200 rpms and in 5th gear so i cant figure out why the needle would just drop, any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Change the Speedo Cable.... problem solved! If not then its the gears in your speedo itself... but I highly doubt that@!

First off make sure you have a cable. I have a '94 and mine is electronic. The speedo gear on the trans has two wires coming off it...no cable. If that's your setup I would suspect the speedo is bad.

my 91 has a cable and its wore in a spot and itll bounce at low speeds and at high speeds so i have to replace it too.

1 of 3 things...assuming it has a cable. easiest to check is the speedo gear in the trans. make sure it's not all gouged up.

secondly, the cable...no way really to check it..but since it's spinning, it's not broke.

3rd the speedo itself.

my guess is the speedo gear in the trans.
