Weird Scary Noise
Ok I got this freakin noise that is drivin me crazy. It is only recognizable in 1st gear and when i slow down to a speed from 0-15 only in a 1st gear or neutral. the noise sounds like brake pads that are really worn out and rubbing on the rotor but the sound is only coming from the back and only mainly from the right side. I changed brakes on theis 94 GT 11months ago when it was at 126k now it is at 142k and has had no new brake pads but a new set of rotors when i installed the pads. the sound just started happening friday the 16th. If anyone has anyclue what could be goin on so i could get an idea for what i need to look for please tell me.

Oh yes the sound is like a grinding sound that only happens going in 1st gear or when in neutral goind backwards or forwards. yet it does not happen at all in reverse.

Thanks in advanced

yes yes that will be done in the morning when i can have some light to work on it. I am hopin that's all it is but just in case this has happened to anyone else i was hopin to get some info or any creative ideas. Mainly due to the fact that the sound is evident even though the brake pedal and the ebrake are nowhere near engaged.

For anyone wondering problem was found. It was very weird i had the complete pad off the inside brake on the passenger side ripped off the outer ad lost its clips and little coil thing up to that holds it into place. the right side was just fine though. the passenger rotor however was damaged pretty bad. All this happened within me driving 20-30miles at normal speeds from the start of the noise. problem is being fixed now. Only problem is that the piston won't depresswith a clamp i checked around and you need some sort of piston tool i located tow kinds one was attached to a ratchet the other was a ratchet like tool. the first was 10 bucks the later was 60. I bought the first and it would not work at all. So......bam.

interesting.
I compressed the piston on an '02 wrx front caliper with my thumbs, and I'm not a burly weightlifter type. (thumb is still screwed up btw - don't recommend doing it. like a severe jam)
I later learned that an easy cheat is to compress the piston while the brake is still assembled - use the rotor and pad that are in there.

What happened to using a C-clamp to compress the pistons?I've yet to have one not compress on the C-clamp.

thats the way i learned it, never heard of theses other tools and sh*t.

Well didn't know about the cap i just went ahead and bought the tool(89bucks) and it was compressed in a jiffy and the aligning was no problem either. But if my luck wasn't bad enough the passenger sides caliper pins are stuck in the braket and won't budge at all even after i tried coaxing it while it was in a clamp and pounded away with a sledge to try to break it loose. Would not budge so i had ta spend even more money for a new bracket and new pins(ran me 50bucks) but i still have to wait on the bracket to come in. But as for the cap and compressing the piston i asked around and found out i wan't the only one seems everyone else just use either hammer and flathead screw driver or vice grips. they had a time with it also so i dunno maybe its a southern thing.
