Default Starter solenoid question

I have a question one of you might be able to answer...I have a 1991 LX that i converted to a 5.0. The starter switch/solenoid under the hood on the drivers side fender, mine keeps shorting out so the starter runs all the time even when the key is out. what causes that? its driving me crazy, and i dont want to mess any parts up espicially since the starter and flexplate are brand new. if anyone can tell how to fix this please tell me. Thanks in advance!

I was in the same shoe your in and it was a combination thing I replaced starter soleniod 3 times and relized there is no way that I have gotten 3 bad ones so I kept asking diggin into stuff. The main problem for mine was the starter switch in the car. Tore apart the the colume and unbolted it and then unplugged it and put new one and it's been fine ever since. Hope this helps.
