What's the quickest and cheapest way to boost rw horsepower? i've got an 87 5.0 LX with a 5spd standard transmission, and I run an h-pipe, flowmasters, cold air intake, k&n air filter, mass air sensor, diablo computer chip, comp cam, and 3.73 gears, as well as BFGoodrich street drag radial tires. I've got about a max. 900 dollar budget for mods.

Heads. Then save your money for a while and get an intake. If I would have taken my budget and gotten heads in the first place, instead of the bolt-on's like you did (minus the filter and gears), it would have been less money and more power.

Sorry sonnyjim 302, I didn't mean to imply you were wrong in doing that, I meant that I spent my money exactly as you did, and given the choice again, I would have gone for the heads in the first place. Good luck.

NItrous. Spend an hour or so setting it up (it'll work, just won't look pretty), don't get greedy, and you'll have an easy 100 horses extra at the push of a button.
You think screwing with heads and exhausts, gears and headers will yeild that kind of power? Especially in that amount of time.
You can get a nice set up for $600 or so. Maybe less if you shop around.

I would say heads. Nitrous is an easy way to get a lot of horsepower, and is cheaper at first, but it can get expensive if you're pushing the button a lot. Also, it puts more wear on an engine. With heads the power will be there whenever you want it, you don't have to worry about the bottle being empty. Besides, I don't know where you live, but in Cali it's illegal to have nitrous hooked up in a street car. Heads are totally legal (depending on which one's you get)
