my block or new block
Im planning on pulling my engine and rebuilding it next winter and I was wondering if it would be better to use my block if its ok or just buy a new one to build off of? Dont really have a budget yet so not too concerned with cost, just what will be the best. Thanx

RE: my block or new block
Lots of times 302 blocks are not as badly worn as people think. I'd measure the block and if .030 overbore would clean it up then do that.
DO NOT try for maor than .030 on stock, production block...
Ok, now everybody will post 1000 posts about guy's taking then .060 & .080

Dude I had a friend who had a sister who had a bf who had a dog who had an owner that had a cousin in another country that bored his car .1584 you could do it. no im JK. Like said earlier if you are planning on putting some major hp into the car then a new block would be the best way to go. Also it saves you the whole take the motor out rebuild it for a while and forget exactly how to put it back in. Once you finish the new block then you can take the old out and put the new in with a fresh mind. Also you wouldnt have to wait till winter Anyways good luck with the project. Hope these threads help.

Around the southwestern U.S.A. we can get 302 "Mexican" blocks. They will still only bore .030 but they have a heavier bottom end, something like the 'K' code 289's had or the block that Ford sells just now for about $900 empty.......
We get for $25-50 over in Mexico.....

Im eventually going to do a single turbo setup on it and hopefully be up to 500 to 600hp . will the stock block handle it or will i have to upgrade to a new block. Or can I make the stock block work. I have great intentions Im just not very educated on this stuff. I would love learn.

it's possible to use the stock block but it will be on borrow'd time so to speak..now if your budget can say handle a dart block and your going to keep the car it's the way to go
