How sweet of a deal were you getting on the E7's? You're right, they aren't the best heads out there, but you can make decent power with them if the port work is done right. I'm running ported E7's, 1.6 RR's with a b303.
Forced induction does a nice job of helping a poor head flow well though, him staying N/A the E7 is a really poor chioce
I agree.

I guess it's going to come down to two things...

1) How fast, is fast enough for you?

2) How deep is your wallet?

Regardless, good luck with it.

If youre on a budget, just save up some money. If you do the E7's, the best thing you can do is at least take the EGR bumps in the exhaust ports, and clean up the exhaust ports. The biggest problem with the 5.0's, and most ford engines in general, is they go too small on the exhaust side.

Also, dont bother with the E-cam. Its old technology, and cam technology is always improving. Id personally recommend a Trick Flow #1. The Alphabet cams dont work as good as they should on a 5.0, because as i stated before, ford always skimps on the exhaust side of their engines, and if you look at the cam specs on an alphabet cam, they have the same lift and duration for the intake and exhaust. You need something with a bit more lift and duration on the exhaust side to help compensate for Fords poor choice in exhaust port and valve sizes. With that cam, i wouldnt run 1.7 roller rockers, id run some 1.6 rockers, which are cheaper, and a little more easy to find for the 5.0's on ebay and whatnot.

What other mods do you have to the car? Hopefully at least headers back exhaust, an intake, and some other stuff.

Im giving bmanice my 5.0 out of my car (I'm getting a new motor) and hes just looking to build a motor on a strict budget since he is also building another car at the time. He just wanted to see what could be done to the E7's to make them a little bit better. Is it worth it to build the E7's or just go out and get a set of GT40 explorer heads? How much more potential do they have and the E7's?
