Whats Better 50 Oz or 28 Oz Imbalance
Alright, I finally got almost all my parts to send my block away to the machine shop to get done I am on my final 2 parts which is the Balancer and the Flexplate. Whats better to get balanced to the 28 or the 50? ANy difference?

Neither one. You either need a 50 ounce or a 28, it's not going to change anything or give you more power. You cab get a lighter one but it will still be balanced the same.

OK, There is a diff. if you ever look at the balancers of a 28 or a 50 and look at the flywheel.they have more metal in the balancer and the weight on the flywheel is bigger that means there is more weight spinning out on the ends of the crank thus. making the crank bow and flex/twist more then a crank with less weight out on the ends.this can cause more friction and vibration and take way HP.the best you can get is Internally or neutral balance where all the weight is in side the motor.But if the motor was not set up for internally balance it can get very expensive to do.I am sure I have missed something on this but I think you sould get a pretty good idea.so to answer your question less weight outside the motor is better. and less weight on the end means better reliability at high RPM.

351=28OZ
302=50OZ
those two balances are for two diffent size engines

No I remember reading somewhere that the 28's are better, and sence the engine is getting balanced in a bit I may as well switch over and buy the better one if their is one, but it does make sence less rotating weight is always better. I know to always match the F plate with the balancer.

The weights are a counter balance to match the rotating assembly. Yes a neutral balance is good but not in the budget for a lot of people. Your rotating assembly is either balanced for a 50 or a 28 oz.

I know that, but what I am saying will I gain anything from switching from the 50 to the 28 not in HP but as in taking stress off the assembly at all, there isnt much of a budget here the bottom of the engine is something that you build right the first time! I can get my crank balanced for the 28 by the machine shop for next to nothing.

you need a 50oz balanced, when you get the motor balanced the may not have to touch the flywheel/flexplate at all, a 28oz motor will crank up a lil faster than a 50oz but its not anything to worry about because you will never feel the differance. i have a frpp 50oz balanced flywheel and my motor is internaly balanced since the flywheel is balanced my machinest did not have to do anything with the flywheel. your car came with a 50oz so that is what i would get.

When you say internally balanced who did that for you, from what I understand even from the factory alot of these engines have a monkey jobed balance. As well I have been told from various people that you have to have the balancer, flexplate/flywheel, and mock up all the pistons to get a true balance on the engine.
