Default Stock Fuel pressure Quiestion

What eaxctly is the stock fuel pressure supposed to be?
I have been driving around the last 2 days with my Guage connected.
At idle it stays at 32 Psi When I get on it then it jumps to 40Psi.

I know I need a new pump soon. When I shut it off all fuel pressure drops to Zero.

But I am chasing a problem with it running rich and Pinging when hot. When it is cold it runs strong. But drops off some and pings when hot.

The timing chain was done a couple of Months ago and is dead on. The balancer is good. I have to run Below 10 degrees on the timing to make the Pinging minimal.

I have more tests to do but wanted to get all the info I can about Fuel pressure.

Thanks for All Advise.

Well, here's my guess. Fuel pressure should increase dramaticly when you're at full throttle. Your pressure regulator reads manifold vacuum and decreases flow back to the tank thus increasing line pressure on the incoming line. Now... if you're running rich when the vehicle is warm, your injectors are giving the engine too much gas. That is determined by injector pulse.. how long the injectors stay open. Your computer controls this and your computer determines your injector pulse time by reading the engine. I haven't worked on fuel injection in a number of years, but I believe the computer reads this from the same wire as your temp gauge, a wire diagram would clarify this. As for it pinging... the computer also increases and decreases timing for cold conditions and warm conditions. You have a base timing... which would be what you're refering to when you say you have to set it under 10degrees, and your computer just increases and decreases timing based on where this base timeing is set. In other words your base timing could be spot on, but because the computer is reading the engine as being cold it is advancing the timing beyond where it needs to be causing your pinging problem. Remember timing advances with engine speed, so it would be more likely to ping at 4000rpms than at 2000rpms. I'ld look into this temp guage problem and see where that leads you. Also, check this regardless of whether the temp gauge in the dash is working or not.

I forget if I have a 180 or 190 I will have to search my Receipts and check.

It stays about half way.

I just got around to pulling codes.

I have a 21 coolant temp sensor out of range.

Also does anyone know what code 34 EVP out of range is?

I will get a coolant temp sensor in the next day or so and install and see if the code goes away.

Ok then no worries on the 34 code because all the smog stuff is gone.
I will post how it goes once I install the new sensor.

UPDATE:Installed Temp sensor today seems to run a little better but still pings some. Haven't had time to clear the code yet but will tomorrow. I am also going to run Valve cleaner through it and then take it from there.
