Default any one seen piston's like this?

my buddie and i decided to strip down my motor today and when we took the heads off and saw the tops of the pistons, and we havent seen any like that before. i was just wondering if they were good ones or not, also is the black stuff on top if the piston normal? he said it was but i just wanted to double check with you guys.

Im fairly new to fords, but Ive used flat tops in high horsepower chevy engines. pop ups will give you higher compression, Im not sure if its stock or not.

Is it an 86 mustang by any chance? Mine has flat tops but they looked a little different then that. The black stuff is just carbon buildup, its normal.

yeah when i bought the car the guy told me it was rebuilt but he wasnt shure how many miles ago though. i have my moto striped down now, every things off besides water pump, rods, pistons, crank and cam. i need to fix my main and rod bearings and oil pump and pan. while im at it should i change the rings, cam bearings? i think it was burning oil when it was running befor, when im on the high way and i mash the throttle black smoke would come out.
