Timing issue.

Timing issue.
I pulled my distributor when i did my upper and lower intake swap. When i went to crank the car, it wouldnt start so i had my friend twist the distributor until it turned over. finally i got it cranked up and i did my timing. i set it to 14 degrees and the car runs good now. i keep hearing ppl talking about making sure the motor is at tdc. i never checked this or anything. the number 1 on my distributor cap is facing to the left and i smell fuel, but the car runs good. do you think i should pull the distributor, find top dead center and then reinstall the distributor, and then set my timing or am i fine. its not a real big deal. i just want to make sure its ok how it is.

RE: Timing issue.
you cant run your car with your distributor timing at TDC, factory base timing is at 10* before TDC, and most 5.0 guys run their cars at 14* BTDC for a bit more performance. what you did was advance the timing a little bit.

RE: Timing issue.
i know what i did. im saying..before i pulled the distributor, the 1 was facing strait back. now after reinstalling it, it is facing to the passenger side fender. Im wandering if i should get the motor to tdc, then replace the distributor. and then do my timing. i never set the motor to top dead center when i replaced the distributor.
