i think a 3500 stall or a 4000 stall would be alot cheaper and easier. you would probably go faster too. my .02's

i am seriously thinking about doing this too. I want to so bad but i have fear init not working correctly when i am done. How hard was it to do. And what do you think the total cost of it would end up being. I am going to be changing my rear main seal this summer and that would be a perfect time to do it.

So how much are the stock AT's good for? I've been considering a 5spd conversion, but if the AT can handle (or be made to) roughly 400rwhp, then I'll stay with AT. Probably more consisten track times anyhow

The stock auto's are build to handle a stock 5.0 (and some minor bolt ons). They are very bad with performance but if you throw a shift kit, 4.10's, and a nice stall it will really wake up and you will feel it. And yes, they are alot more consistant on the track. OR you can go get yourself a street/strip PA C4.

i did my own then a month ago my buddy's. this is a straight forward swap. if you have ever changed a clutch you can do this . the toughest part is getting the pedals in the space is cramped and there is alot of crap down there in your way. but shifting is so much more fun. when i did mine i was shocked how much faster my car felt. altogether i spent 1200$ for the swap i got my tranny used with low miles from some dope fiend for 250$ the rest i bought new. it's been a year and i'm still going strong with no problems at all.

I'm about 90 percent done with my swap. If your decent with a wrench it's an easy project. Gathering the parts and the pedal assembly swap are the two most frustrating things about the whole thing.
