Ur getting up there in miles...If I was you and I liked the car and it was in decent shape i would throw some money into to it....New powertrain and paint....I would even consider gutting the whole car and makin it a track car or just redoing it really nice...

It depends on how well it's been maintained. In my career in auto repair I have seen some cars with over 300,000 miles that still ran great. If it doesn't smoke or knock, and it still has decent compession and oil pressure,I would go with a timing chain and gears and drop the oil pan and install a new oil pump and screen. If the trans shifts good I would go with a new filter and fluid. My daughter's stang has 120,000 miles,my s10 pickup has 190,000 and my astro van has 320,000 miles all with original engines and trans(knock on wood!)

my 4 cylinder 87 mustang has 180,000 miles, ive had to replace the trans, radiator, egr, and heater core. Ive lost mileage, i used to get like 18/24, ow i get 15/20, granted v8s are stronger and last longer, but if i were you i would have the engine rebuilt and the trans inspected, youd probably last another 200,000 miles

Mine was fine at 173,xxx miles until it decided to blow up.

Cracked the block.broke the timing chain, blew apart the cover.
Took the head off, notched some gashes in the pistons. broke the crank.
burnt some valves and bent some rods, Spun some bearings. took out the cam after these pics.
not sure if its bent. didnt see any damage on it though.

I would find either a 302 or 351 block and do the build up.. while enjoying the car
