Default 85 5.0 notch

Hey I can get one of these for 400 dollars. The owner says it might have a blown head gasket but he's not sure. It has a 5spd and all that but I dont know if I want a carb. Also it has the 7 inch rear end. I'm thinking about just getting a different engine and rebuilding that like my original plan. What do you guys think? How much would it be to convert to EFI and 8.8 rear end?

I am actually debating buying the car for 400 fixing it then selling the 94 and getting a classic, resotring that then turning the 5.0 into a race car. Or just making the 85 a race car and keeping the 94.

Take the 84 and rebuild it, you can make a bitchin' race car out of the carb'd models.. Just won't be smog legal. Carb'd models are pretty easy to make go fast. The Carb is basically the only real expensive part, besides heads. 400 bux is an awesome deal if the car still has wheels and doors on it..

lol the car does have everything. It is complete just has a blown head gasket. What kind of mods can I do other then exhaust and all that? I dont know much about carb but is it basicly a EFi minus the fuel injectors and manifold and CAI? If so then it is basically I just mod the actuall engine and such. Would heads off of a 86-95 work also? Is it basically the same engine just carb'd? Are the internal forged? What should I know about this year?

Sounds like a good deal.
8.8 bolts in.
Carbed car is much cheaper to build for racing than a EFI one. Get some books about Holley carbs and study them. Easier to work on than you think.
Those early Fox body cars are also lighter than the later ones too.

i have an 84 carb its awsome im turning it into a show/race car. you can do everythign to them do 8.8 rear just bolts in ford racing makes one fully assembled with 3.73 gears for 850 which im dropping in my car then get a nice set of heads i might go with ford racing gt40z's and a new cam. the best bolt on hp for these cars are intake manifold with no egr and a nice set of heads. def go with the carb for 400 i would jump all over that if i didnt have my car

The great thing is you can swap intakes on carbed in about 30 minutes. Go to the track and put your high rise on, get ready to go home and put your streetable intake on.

Ok so I will get it. I'm going to slowly but surely turn it into a race car. I was debating whether or not just to get a engine and build that because my step dad isnt to happy about having another car in the drive way. Also in 4 years it will be smog exempt unless some laws pass and they screw me. But I think I will just get the stang rip the engine out rebuild it and all that. What is a good intake for the car? I dont know much about how carb's work but I will get a book on how to build it like mentioned above.

You can read up on the 85' GT at http://www.mustanggt.org/ < It gives you basic info on the stock motor, and what the changes were over the years, a pretty informative site.
