Tranny help

RE: Tranny help
What exactly do you mean by that? Is it grinding while your shifting into 2nd or after 2nd is engaged and you floor it? Shifting up from 1st only or anytime? Does it do it if you double clutch it? Are any other gears hard or real easy to shift? Does the clutch feel ok?

RE: Tranny help
Yeah sounds like a synchro but I'd triple check all the small stuff before you write off the trans. I assume when you replaced the clutch you did it right, using NEW disc, press plate, pilot and throwout bearings, and resurfaced flywheel. If not do all that before you get into the trans. Otherwise the clutch should be fine but make sure it's releasing all the way, if the input shaft is dragging on something the synchro has to "work" alot harder.
Check the trans fluid of course, and carefully inspect all the linkages/ cables/ bushings/ mounts for the clutch and shifter and make any adjustments, if the clutch is hydraulic check the fluid and bleed it good. If your on a tight budget you may be able to find a few things to help lessen the grinding and put off a rebuild until later, but if your thinking about a new trans thats probably not the case. Ethier way I'd inspect every little thing as you drop the trans, and if you find something worn make a note and keep going. That way you know all the little stuff you need to get so you don't get into the whole "stop everything and get this $10 part or just reuse it and get it done" dilema.
As far as what to do with the tranny itself I'm not real familiar with the specifics on that tranny. I'm thinking anything ford put in a cobra should hold up just fine, and they do alot of testing finding the right gear ratios, so I doub't you'll do alot better. I'm not sure if tremec makes different 6spd or not but if your talking the one that comes in late model camaros I've heard they're not good for much over 400 ft-lbs TQ. Also 1st on them is very short, almost worthless, so basically you got a weak 5spd (2-6) with a granny gear. I'd say just go for a quality rebuild on the one you've got.
