302 BLOCKS
On the '86 to '95 roller blocks (the most numerous and least expensive), the main caps are the weak point. If you're going to stroke one to a 347c.i., it's still a reliable block, and the bore is only a 306, with the added inches coming from the stroke.
Earlier 289 and 302 blocks are better because of the beefier #1 main area, where the newer blocks are more prone to crack. But these blocks are hard to find and usually considerably more money. The dart blocks are the best, with 4 bolt mains and thicker webs, but really expensive, over $2000. The late model blocks are good for over 500hp when done right, but some make over 600hp while the owner holds his breath.

302 BLOCKS
The 302 blocks tend to crack in the main web area.I bought one like that a long time ago before i knew anything about it they are hard to see unless you know exactly what your looking for.I like the dss girdle it will help alot.I would consider351w block they are a heck of alot beefier in the main web area and can be stroked to over 400c.i. dss makes girdles for them also.My next motor when i get tired of my 347 or when it gets tired will be a turbocharged 377 or 393w stroker.
