what about a 331 stroker??? I wouldnt go 347, unless I was going to race, as the cylinder walls are very thin.
The cylinder walls are the same with a 331 or 347. They are both 4.030" bore. The difference is the stroke.

If I had it to do over again I would have started with a 351 instead of 5.0.

I have, and covered it all up. those were just the only pics I could find at the time (notice it is started in the first pic)

a stroked 351W based engine is the way to go for you. running the stock stroke would not be advantagous for you because it is a strip/street engine and you wont be revving to 10k rpms.

So in order to get to rev to the 10k rpms or so Id have to get what size stroke?

I have found out that the 3.25(331) stroke on a 302 is better strength wise than the 3.4 in (347) because both use a 5.4 inch connecting rod and the 331 has a better rod ratio making less side load on the 302 block wich likes to split in half. As for the 351, I here both the 3.85 inch stroke and the 4 inch troke are very good The first being a 393 and the later being a 408. The more I find out and given I wish to drive an all motor set up I think the 393/408 will be a better choice. I found an article where the FRPP 393 with AFR heads made 530 HP at 5800 rpm on 91 gas and made 500 ft lbs of torque in carberated form. Finding that the stroker kits for 302 and 351 are almost the same cost I think I will stroke a 351.

10k was an exaggeration, but you could probably get it running a 302 crank.

yes your correct, what I ment to say was that, with the 347, the wrist pin is located up into the oil ring, which can cause some oil use, the 331 wrist pin is a bit lower. but now come to think of it, didnt they correct this problem??

Yes. They now make a 347 kit with a 5.315" rod that does not intersect the ring. They still make both kits though, so you must look for the 5.315" rod kit. I know Probe makes them.

And there was a HUGE thread on corral about the rod ratio arguement and the 331 lasting longer. Cliff Notes: It's all BS and no one can prove the 331 will last longer.
