Would removing the smog pump create any funny smells behind the car? I'm not worried about passing inspection (yeah it costs me an extra $60, but oh well), but I don't want to hand myself over either. When removing the smog pump, is it as simple as replacing it with an eliminator pulley, or is there some other work that has to be done as well?

You can either use an eliminator pulley or just buy a shorter belt and route it while deleting it. You will need to plug up the lines coming out of it. There should be one going to your exhaust I believe and one that goes to the hard line behing the heads. You'll have to plug up those two lines but thats it.
