Default 92 thunderbird

hey does the 92 thunderbird have the same 5.0 as the 92 stang? my grandpa just got one recently and i was wondering a first few couple cheap mods i could do for it,i read about removing the air silencer and will prolly end up doing exhaust in the future but that can get pricey but i was just wondering that and if the 5.0 in the t-bird has all the same mods available as in the stang like what i said above...thanks

92 should be mass air; I think the major differences were- How well the manifold flows, a smaller cam (I use that loosely, how about less agressive), and maybe? different heads, along with the computer to match.
I think it would like the mods as much as mustangs do-

ic,thanks bro,and since maybe it might be heavier would like a torque converter or maybe some upgrades like that would be a good choice too?....if it has the mass air, would removing the air intake silencer still be a good idea?

thanks

Motor wise if it is the 5.0 it is the same exact motor. Therefore any hardware i.e. heads, cam, etc should be the same. Obviously the major problem that you'll run into is fitment issues. Since the body is differently shaped and the motor I'm sure sits in a different location compared to the stang you might want to look for parts that say T-Bird instead of mustang (like exhaust, headers, intake manifold etc.) Good luck and I hope you get your gramp's ride running sweet.

I had an 88 T-bird, and from what I learned on forums there, I'm positive at least the cams are different. Or at least they were on an 88 (speed density). Taking the air silencer off is still safe either way! I was just speculating on the heads. I'm also pretty sure the manifold is different as well, but again I could be wrong [&:]

I think the differences are between a 5.0, and a 5.0 HO

Edit again* The t-bird 5.0s put out 200HP and 275TQ; which is obviously less than ours at 225 and 300

So I was correct about what I said; but I'm still not positive about the heads

t-bird only has those ratings because ford changed the way they rate the power of motors.

the mustang really makes 210hp and 275ft/lb torque with all the accessories on it. if it is stripped and no smog equipment they make around 230hp and most likely over 300ft/lb torque.

i just remember reading that on wikipedia a few days ago

They didn't change the way they measured the stangs' until 93, so why would they have changed how they measured tbirds in 88? The time thing doesn't work out right. I'm telling you, they are NOT the same motor.
