If you go w/ a 4 banger, you'll need to swap out the tranny. the I4 version is geared a little differently and won't hold the same power. Some people may say it'll work fine, but you'd be taking a big gamble. Do some research on it (google).
Also, I think the 4 banger comes w/ the 7.7 rear end instead of the 8.8, but i could be mistaken on that one. You'd might be better off $-wise to get a 5.0 so you don't have to get the wiring harness, etc. that you'd need for the swap.

The 4cyl car also has the fuel lines down the wrong side, 85mph speedo, and smaller brakes on top of the already mentioned 7.5" rearend, different tranny and softer suspension.
lookinforastang, from your quote on consumerguide, it is comparing the GT to the base model LX 2.3. The 4cyl car is the base model.
I also think all your dry weights are a little light. I don't see any showroom stock 5.0 hatch cars being under 3000lbs.

Exactly..since my non ac and aluminum headed lx weighs around 3050lbs and that's pretty much stripped..So please show me a stock gt or hell even an lx that comes close to 3000lbs and i'll send you money via pay pal.

According to The Official Ford Mustang 5.0 Technical Reference & Performance Handbook pg. 160 a LX 5.0L sedan 5-speed weighs 3037 lbs. compared to a GT hatchback 5-speed @ 3191 lbs.

i know my old GTPs where 47lbs each when i shipped them and i think aluminum are about 30lbs each so youre right around the mark and correct. its nice dealing with ppl that have knowledge[8D]

About 25lbs each...all depends on the heads but there is slight diff. in the weight of a aluminum head.
