Hey guys, like a lot of people on here, my wallet is pretty thin . So i was wondering if it would be worth it to get some used gt-40 heads off of a 96-97 explorer or whatever and get a used cobra intke off ebay. How much do you think it might cost and how much rear wheel power and tq increase do you think ill see. keep in mind im 17 and i make a lil over 100 a week (told you i was poor! lol) thanks guys
Are you saying that we are all poop bastards ?!? Its OK. We are... we wont deny it lol

Actually I wasnt calling anyone a POOP bastard (check your comment) lol. But i know other pe3ople are broke like me. Let me get this straight though, theres gt-40 intakes too? There probably off of the explorer also right? Am I better off just getting a used motor out of an explorer? Do they make a considerably higher amount of hp and tq?

GT40E is more for low end but the intake does hang up there right with the cobra one.

also the p heads can use BBK unequal shorties. i know from experience

E=Iron head, P=Explorer iron head, Y=aluminum head, X=aluminum head with bigger ports, Z=aluminum head with BIG ports

depends what it's being used for....the X head is a better street head, but the Z head is for racing and not emissions legal.

Iron heads: the GT-40 (3 bars on the end of the head) came on the 93-95 cobras and the 96-mid97 explorers. The GT-40P (4 bars) came on mid97-later explorers. The gt40P's actually flow better almost all the way to .600 lift (link at bottom).

You don't want to get an entire Exploder engine unless you are changing out the cam and possibly internals. <--it came w/ a milder cam than a stock 5.0 stang==less power.

As for the intakes: there are basically 3: Cobra, Explorer, and GT-40. All 3 use the same lower manifold, but the uppers are different. The Cobra and Explorer are similar, but I've read about people making slightly more power w/ the Explorer. The GT-40 is the better of Ford's intakes due to the open runner construction and higher flow rates.
