My 87 conv. will crank up but will die after a few seconds. then it wont crank at all. After it sets for a hour it will crank again. Do yall have any ideas.

Fuel pump and filter are good
12volts at dist.

Well, I added a few more mods to my 90 conv awile back including a MSD ignition coil. It seems to crank up fine all the time. Even when we got about a half an inch of ice everywhere, my car was under a cover and after I took it off, it cranked up fine. But a few days after that, I cranked it up after I hadn't been driving it for a few days and it kept dying on me about 3 seconds after I started it up. It was shooting blue smoke out the back and I was real worried about it. I called my dad and he came over and had the same problem. This probably wasn't the best solution, but he cranked it up and decided to rev the hell out of it. Then he decided to run it up and down the street a few times in first. It seemed alright after that, althought I cringing inside watching him do it. I don't know what to tell you. Try what my dad did.

If you give it a little gas will it run? If so, it could be the IAC or a vacuum leak or other basic idle issues.

Do you still have converters on that car? Could be a clogged converter and when the car sits for an hour the pressure seeps past and allows it to start again for a few seconds until the pressure builds up and kills it. Check the air filter and make sure a mouse didn't build a nest in the bread box and clog it up (happened to my GF on her Probe) again, after a little while enough air seeps in to allow the car to start until it chokes.
