skipping third gear

skipping third gear
my trans wouldnt grab third gear so i swapped i t out with a new one and it still doesnt. i doubt it is the trans so i was wondering waht you guys think it is. i think it may be a lincage or my computer. the thing is my car is an 89 lx with a 90 engine in it does this matter

i will switch it into third gear manually and my rpms will shoot up if i am on the throttle. when i give it a rest my engine will just idle and when i hit it to go faster it wont even go, kind of like i am in nuetral

I am guessing it is an automatic, since you manually put it into 3rd.
did you check your tranny fluid level?
if you put in another tranny, mabye that one was worn out too.
or, mabye you accidentally put the same trans back in, it happens to the best of us from time to time.
