the c-4s came with 157 and 164 tooth fly wheel sounds like to me you have a big bell and need a small bell is your trans dip stick in the case or the pan for starters.

also do you have a old 164 fly wheel if you do see if it will fit in your bell if it will your bell is the big one 164 if it dont then you have the 157 bell if your trans is a pan fill for the dip stick tube then it is also a 164 and you will need to get the 157 bell.

Mine is a case fill. The flexplate that is on it now has less then an inch from the bell to the teeth. Im at a loss on this thing. It worked fine when I had the 50 oz flexplate on it. Now that I have the 28 oz im having all kind of problems. The bad thing is I checked the size of the 28 against the 50 oz before I installed it. They were identical. The only difference was the size of the weights.

Well I have now changed out the starter case from the long front to a short front. It still didn't fix my problem. Then I installed a bigger gear on the starter and that didn't work either. So far I have installed and broken two 1990 stock starters, a 1995 mini starter, a shorter head on the starter, and now a bigger gear on the starter. I am at the end of my knowledge. Short of my pulling out the trans and installing a different bellhousing or flexplate, Im at a loss as to what to do.??????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????
