i would just fix everything that's related to cooling the engine down... that way no future problem could happen

I appreciate the tips. I ended up by the stock replacement t-stat instead of the 180 degree one simply because the shop would have had to order it and I wanted to get it done now.
I guess the next easy thing to do is to simply replace the radiator cap then.
The fan seems to be working fine, in fact, I have been leaving the switch in the "on" position the last few days and running it constantly.

I am not sure about the moldings, I will have to look into that. I had a friend at a shop take it in and check for leaks and they didn't find any. I just topped off the coolant the other night and it didn't require very much at all, about what I would expect.

I was asking about the guage because even though the car is constantly running on "H," I haven't had any problems with overheating yet or noticed any differences in the way it drives. It still always starts right up.
I have also tried the old "turn on your heater trick" and even with the heater on full blast, it makes no difference on the guage reading in the car

May be a screwed up gauge, then, but I would have someone double check your fan and the wiring just to be sure....especially if it was already in there when you bought it.
