gas gauge inop!

hey guys..first of all i want to thank everyone for welcoming a newbie like me and helping me out..anyways my gas gauge in my 1989 Mustang LX isn't workin and hasn't been working for a while what do u guys think it is? and is it worth replacing or is it going to not work again?
