when people talk about a pinging noise when they do the timing what does that sound like and where does it come from?

Mine does it when it is in OD and going up a steep hill at less than 25mph. I just drop it into 2nd and takes care of it.... Pinging comes from up front and kind of sounds like a knocking noise. I have heard some gas can cause it too....

Bad gas, too advanced timing, not enough octane to name a few. Sounds like a can of marbles rattling around.

... an exhaust leak can also sound like pinging.

when do you get the pingging? it could be the ignition just needs to be adjusted and you can easily do that ur self...it might need to be bumped up 5 degrees...just try some different positions until it stops..another thing is if you run 87 octane gas...my car pings like crazy if i run anything under 90 oct
