347 Stroker help
I've decided to build a stroker to put in the ol fox to replace the tired 150000 mile 5.0 currently in use. I was hoping somebody could give me a decent list of parts needed to do so. The plan is to buy an old 5.0 block from a junkyard or something to that tone and build the engine leaving my car running in the meantime. Other than the obvious (a stroker kit including crank, rods, pistons) what else do I need to look for?

RE: 347 Stroker help
Get an already machined block, cheaper on the long run. B&E Engine in Texas has em for $300. To stroke it you need to clearnance the block also, which is simple. I did it and can get you pics of needed. There's also a jig out there too that help. The SCAT 347 kit I have goes for $1040 retail. I got my block and kit for $1000, found a sweet deal...
To get it balanced will be @ 250 bones. Mine was even already balanced but had a factory 28ox damper and auto flexplate so I had to get it done again any way since I have a manual and am going to run a fluidamper.
Other than that, that should be all you need for the short block...
Using the right tools is very important also. Ring gapper, piston ring compressor, ring installer, torque wrench, plasti gage or micrometers...

What about the kits at www.coasthigh.com ? They seem to have fairly decent prices. Found them in a MM&FF ad.

^^^ Coast High Performance is a very reputable performance shop. I wouldnt think twice about having them build you a short block. Dont limit yourself though because there are lots of other great shops around. FPS, DSS, etc.

RE: 347 Stroker help
Is it ok to get a used block and build it? Or am I further ahead to buy a short block? A stroker kit is within the budget right now. Building it and whatnot. Short block? I dunno.

RE: 347 Stroker help
I have Used "seasoned" or used blocks for all my builds. have had no problems. just make sure that u get the blocks tested/inspected and you should be good. any good Machine shop will be able to do this. im gonna be doing a stroker here soon and i plan on using my block, as long as it tests out fine. after 167,000 miles who knows what one will find but im sure it will be good.
