Default wats a compression ratio?

wat is a compression ratio, how is it measured, and how does it effect a cars performance. how would a mechanic (or thy self) cahnge the compression ratio.

compression can be changed by....diffrent cc heads... shaving the heads...shaving or changing the pistons....there are many ways to change compression

depends. do you want to run forced air induction? do you want to have to run on racing gas? etc..... any time you force air into a motor (turbo,blower) you need a lower compression ratio. all motor cars usually have higher compression ratios. plus, the higher the compression ratio, the higher octane requirement to prevent detonation. hope this helps a little.

<FONT face="Times New Roman, Times, serif" size=2>It depends. If you want to keep it naturally aspirated with out forced induction than the higher cmpression ratio is normally better. If you are running forced induction than normally a lower compression ratio is preferred to help control detonation.</FONT>
