Default Lift question...?

Does the lift depend on the springs ? or does it depend on the heads ?

The reason i'm asking is because i just got some gt40p's and i hear that over .500 lift they dont perform well at all, and the valve springs on my heads are rated at .600 lift max.

Is .600 too much for gtp's ?

Also, how can i check if my vavles/pistons will clear ?

You won't clear past ~.545-.550 lift. what cam do you have? The valve springs should be okay.

Springs are matched to the cam lift, duration and ramp desighn (most people never take the latter into account). So if your springs are rated for .600 lift that means you can run a cam with almost that much lift (I like to be at least .010 under the spring rating with lift as a safety measure. Remeber that spring rate will be affected by installed height.

I am planning on getting a B303 or E303. Not too sure yet, i'm not to sure what will be my best bet there, my knowledge of this is very low. Any suggestions on that ?

So i should look for a cam with around .545 lift ?

my valves are 1.94/1.54 60cc chamber if that has anything to do with it.

Am i gonna need to get new lifters/pushrods with this application ?

thanks alot for all the info, i'm new at this game.

Well......right now its all tore apart except for the cam is still in....

I already have BBK CAI, BBK underdrive pulleys,BBK headers,BBk fuel pressure regulator ( adjustable ),Ford Racing 4.11 gears ( 5spd tran. )

When all back together it will have the above^^ and GTP heads, not too sure which cam yet, 24# injectors, maybe advance timing ( if its worthwhile ) and a mass air meter calibrated for 24# injectors ( prolly from a cobra if it will work fine ) , MSD cap/rotor, MSD wires, and MSD blaster coil. Pretty sure thats it, i want to do an intake while i'm there but money is low....especially now. If i can find one off an explorer or a cobra for cheap i'll for sure pick it up.

Thanks

The spring limits lift if you lift it more than max lift the springs will coil bind (never good). .500-.550 lift is plenty.

So will i be fine running the .600 springs ? or should i get ones that are under .550 ?

The cam has to match the springs, right ?

sorry if i ask stupid questions, i'm just trying to get it to make scense to me

Off the topic a bit, but one quick question: My brother has some 17's i was thinkin about puttin on my car for a bit. The thing is they are only 7" wide, too small for a stallion ?

The spring pressure has to match the cam. Both open and closed. Spring installed height will also affect spring pressure. For the limited engine specs you've provided, I don't see why your going to run a .55X lift cam.
