Default new heads

I have a question and i am almost 100% sure it might start another debate in the forum, but i dont want to mess this up. here is what i have done so far....

1991 GT 5.0
cobra intake
ecam
70mm TB
fenderwell CAI
76mm MAF
3.73 gears (debating on going to 4.10)
bbk shorty 1 5/8" headers
off road x pipe
flowmaster 2 chambers
MSD 6AL with blaster coil and wires

I am purchasing a set of heads, BUT my problem is im getting mixed reviews about various types of heads.
What heads would you suggest and rocker arms ( i need to stay emission legal).
I am leaning towards a set of AFR 185 (stud mount) but i dont know what rocker arms to get with it.
If you know a better head/rocker combination that you think i would get more performance out of please let me know.
Thanks.

Unless you are going to flycut your pistons or have some w/ valve reliefs, the 185's won't work w/ your stock internals. Look at the Twisted Wedge or the 165's.......

As for the rocker arms, most will give you the same results if they're extruded aluminum. I'd go w/ 1.7's to get a little extra lift. You'd be at .529 w/ your E cam.

i thought i would need flycut pistons for the twisted wedge heads not the AFRs. I was told the AFRs are inline like the stock or gt40 heads

i am sure there are more heads that will work better than the gt40 turbo swirl heads im willing to spend abou $1500 on a set so if i dont find anything better than the gt40 then im sure i will get those

youre right...........i KNOW the AFR 165's dont need flycut pistons, but the 185's might...i KNOW the Twisted Wedge ones DO need flycut pistons........the 165's are GREAT heads out of the box. ive NEVER heard a complaint about them.

The 185's have 2.02 valves and won't work unless you have valve reliefs. The TW heads also have 2.02 valves, but they are rotated slightly so they will clear stock internals as long as your cam doesn't have too high a lift. The 165's have smaller intake valves, I think 1.90, not sure, but they will clear stock internals as well.

Go HERE for some flow comparisons....

I am moving back to dallas in september and from what i understand they do the dyno emissions test and I need to stay within my given limit ( i have a stock h pipe for testing) but with the 1.7 rockers will that take me over the limit?

The Twisted Wedge heads will clear on a stock shortblock. 2.02" inline valve heads will not clear i.e. AFR 185s. Twisted Wedge is the only 2.02" intake valve head that will clear a stock shortblock. Cam limitations are not solely based on lift. Valve timing is the major issue. According to the Trick Flow website, a Twisted Wedge will clear a stock shortblock with a cam up to ~.540 lift and 224* duration @ .050 on the intake and I forget to what lobe seperation (I think it's 112*).

But yes, the E-cam will clear with Twisted Wedge heads on a stock shortblock.
