Fox body or SN95 5.0
Hello Mustang Forums. I'm in the market for a mustang or at least I will be in the very near future. I know I want a 5.0, and I really had my heart set on a notchback 90-93(gotta have airbags) but I'm wondering if the SN95 has any major advantages over the fox body. I notice a common upgrade for the foxes is to go to 5 lug SN95 axles...would I be better off Brake/Suspension-wise down the road (maintinance and upgrades) with the SN95?
I intend to use the car as a daily driver, mostly short city trips and a ~50 mile highway trip 2-3 times a month. I intend to follow the upgrade path(exhaust,H/C/I,suspension) over the next few years and I'm basically just debating which style I should go with. Any help appreciated

94-95 have better brakes, handle a bit better, are more comfortable and have a better interior... downside is they're slightly slower, escpecially if you were looking for a notchback, it can be as much as a whole second difference in the 1/4.
just go with the style you like the most, they can both be made just as fast with a few mods... same goes for handling and braking.

Get a Fox, it seems like sn95 bodys are easier to damage (curvy front fenders)

Hmm, ok. I really do love the notch body style as it is quite sleeperish and a second on the quarter is a hell of a lot.
Anything I should look out for in particular when test driving foxes...certain spots of rust, how to identify after market intake? I kind of want an unmolested car so that I know some 16 year old didn't install a CAI and drive it like...a 16 year old.

CAI is pretty apparent, it'll have a metal tube with a cone style filter instead of a plastic tube and an airbox... it's very common mod and really doesn't do much at all except look shiny (maybe 2hp if you're lucky) so i wouldn't worry about that... just get under the car, see if there are any leaks or rust, make sure the tranny is shifting smoothly, listen to the engine make sure it sounds alright... test drive it hard!

Ok, thanks. I'm not literally worried about a CAI...I don;t mind. What I meant is I don't want a car owned by a younger kid who "modded it" with a little bolt on and then drove it like a racecar.
Think I can find a decent shape notch in the $5000 area or is that a stretch?

depends on your area mostly ...clean notches are rarely under 9k here, but i'm in Canuck land.

hey hey easy with the "young driver" attacks, im 17 and ive had my 94 gt for a few months and i treat that thing better than i treat myself, just cus we're young doesnt mean we're always crazy but anyway ive driven both foxes and SN95s and personally i like the ride of SN95s however like it has been said both can be played with to make it better, and if you are looking for foxes ive seen as low as 3 for a decent fox good luck

I paid 6k for mine.....and it was bone stock with not a spot of rust.
6k is a bit high for a stock notch.....you should be able to find one for 5k
Take your time though....a good notch is a little harder to come by.....don't get over-anxious and pick something that you don't want......
