Straight up the best is the 1988 GT. unless you can find a 93 Cobra, but thats the only one that can beat it, and just barely

How about this, every model has its ups and downs. use the 79-86 shell cause it is the lightest, 93 front end (fenders, hood, bumper cover), or maybe just the fenders for the extra clearance cause the 4 eyed look is sexy, 95 interioir (dash, seats, console), 87-93 tailights, brakes from the 93 cobra r, and to top it all off go custom with the 67 eleanor side body lines.(alot of custom work)

At least thats pretty much my plan with my 83

87-93 notch with a drag look or a sn95 slammed on the ground no spoiler and big tires in the back.

thats my personal opinion. i personally don't like the 4eye look just not me i think it looks funny.........

86-93, gotta be EFI, I personally love the 4 eyes cause you don't see too many but also love the round nose as well

Let me help ya out there, 79-82 have the lightest shell's, 83-86 (probably 93), in '83 they added more sheetmetal to the firewall and throughout the whole car.
And the 87-93 fenders wont work with any 4eyed nose unless you alter them. The angle for the ground effect is wrong.

As for what the best year, depends on what youre looking for in a stang. IMO, the '85 and its not just because I own one. Theyre still carbed, which IMO is way better than EFI (unless youre going to turbo), they're still 4 eye, and with headlight covers MORE aerodynamic than the 87-93's, got a cool lookin interior with red backlit guages, Recaro style seats that are fully adjustable, not only lumbar but pull out leg bolsters.
Only draw backs to the 85, 7.5" rear end and the puny 9" front brakes. Oh and no airbags. But even without they still have 5star front impact ratings.
