I have a friend that has a 88 GT vert. It has the tail light slotted covers and they are looking a little worn as in paint is getting thin and the gray primer is starting to come through.

If I remember correctly, these are supposed to be the same color as the body. Are these covers supposed to be gloss or flat?

What is the best way to remove and reinstall these covers?

Theyre not covers- the lenses themselves are painted.
I want to get a set of GT lights for my LX but cant find a set the right color and masking them is just too much work.

They should be body color unless replace with a different color or have been painted before. Just get a can of body matching touch up paint and mask them off. I did that to a set of white ones I wanted flat black I once had on my LX they look fine.
