alot of people side step a 5 speed burn out but what i do is when i roll through the water box i spin the tires just enough to get them good and wet then pull forward a few inches until im right on the edge of the water. then when the track official gives me the lightr em up signal i stall it up to about 3000 rpm and dump the clutch and move my foot from the clutch to the brake all in one fluid motion. once the tires start spining good i ease off the brake a little until i edge up out of the water box all the while still spining. then once im out of the box i hold the brake hard and hold about 3500 rpm until the tires are hot then release the brake and clutch again and get ready to stage. i never leave first gear on a burn out with a manual tranny because with the tires i got if you hit second gear and the tires arent wet enough you risk frying the tranny or rearend.
