it almost sounds like something hitting the valve covers, havent had any of these problems till i messed w/ the timing.i rev'd it up once and the engine just sounds real bad and gets louder w/ rpms, its hard to describe from my memory this morning, but when i rev'd it i guess like 3k or close to it i heard a real loud knock/thump come from inside the engine, alomost sounded like it was in the pan, but i doubt anything did hit it since it wasnt quite loud enough for that.

you prolly just heard your first detonation due to the timing being way off. did you stab the dizzy back in correctly cause you might have it turned 180* out.

i didnt pull it out, i turned it once or twice too far but turned it back and got the timing set, and the dizzy is positioned right where i had it before.

ok, what did you use to determine you were at TDC on the #1 cylinder.

it doesnt matter if its tdc when ur setting the timing right?
i already had tdc on #1 set when we put the dizzy in the first time using a spark plug hole checking for compression to tell TDC.
i dont think the dizzy is 180 off since the plug wires arent long enough for it to spin that far

just verifying you stabbed it right when you put it in. its prollypinging from timing being off
