Overheating at 2600 Rpm or more
Hello I have a 87 gt convert. that I am so stumped on. I blew a head gasket. So I had the Heads milled and cheaked for cracks. Than I put on the new headgaskets on, I am 99.9% sure thay are on the right way I havechanged manymustang head gaskets before. [:'(]The car runs at normal oparating temp at idal or driving under 2600 rpm. But as soon as I run the car over 2600 rpms my temp jumps to 210 or more.
Things I have tryed- 2 diffrent radiators.,2 diffrent water pumps, 2 diffrent rad. caps. , 2 diffrent theromostats, a difrent temp. gauge.
The timing is set at 8 deg.
If my headgaskets where on back words wouldnt the car overheat all the time?
Any body have an advice for me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

One head gasket should've been installed upside down. I believe the pass. side. If it was installed right side up, it would redirected the coolant flow, and you would've had uneven head temps. At idle, you may have been fine, but once revved up, like you said, it may overheat.

Well some people dont realize that the head gasket can go on upside down, so they put it on thinking that the right side up needs to be up. Or I thought maybe you didnt see it marked FRONT.

Yes I now that I had one head gasket upside down.
I did see where the old head gasket was blown. It was leting air in to my cooling system.
(before I changed the head gasket I would burp it and the air would come right back in to the cooling system)
After puting the new headgasket on I dont have air geting in the coolong system after i burp it.

Do you still have the stock clutch fan? Cuz if its bad, than obviously, your not drawing much air threw the radiator....
