Default 5.0 experts please chime in

ok I bouhgt a 85 lx mustang from a local guy here. it is pretty nice new pain and interior is new but the motor doesn't run right. ok so all I know about the motor is it was punched 30-over. It has a edelbrock performer intake, 600cfm edelbrock carb, sealed power cam, msd 6a box, hedman headers and a weiand water pump. Oh it also has heavy duty valve springs, double roller timing set and I believe roller rockers. well my problem is that the car is gutless. it stumbles when you accelerate, misses allot, and has absolutelyno power. could it be a timing issue relating to the distributor? the reason i ask is because I thought most carburated engines had vacume advance distributors on them. this car has one with a icm on it. is that the wrong distributor? please help me out. thanks!

take a look at the timing. get your timing gun out and watch the advance while you slowly rev it.
the MSD box should be taking care of everything, unless its not wired right.

Make sure the accelorator pump on the carb is adjusted right, brother had problems with his new edelbrock carb on his 360 hit the gas and it had poor take off and felt gutless. was dumping too much fuel and basicly flooding it out. He ended up having to re-jet it.

Is it an auto or a 5-speed? If it's an auto it was originally a fuel inj. 302. So you're dist. will have the ICM. All the 5-speed cars were carbed in '85(last year for carb.). Mine has a vacuum advance on the dist. It sounds like a timing issue with the car. Check all your vacuum lines too.
